Julep Hooray For May mystery box

It’s time for another mystery box from Julep! So Julep suckered me in for another mystery box and this has to be the most disappointing to date. While I was really excited to get only polishes, out of the 6 polishes 4 were ones I already owned. Very disappointing! I guess I reached the point where I have a large collection of Julep polishes. Enough with my gloom and doom and on to the box.

Here is everything I got in my box, which is version 2.

The item in the drawstring bag is a gift to give to a friend. Cute idea and since I owned it already I can happily give it away.

I was surprised that the give away polish was Alice from May’s Maven boxes.

The next 3 polishes are ones I already own.

I was happy to get another Avery. I was originally going to give my first Avery away to my cousin because that’s her name but I really liked the polish. I was going to buy her one so it is nice that Julep saved me a step. And it is perfect timing because she is having a dance recital soon so I can give her a little present.

Sharon is pretty red, kinda reminds of a red car. Not sports car red, normal car red.

Grace is a really pale pink. This is three coats on the swatch plate and it still doesn’t look like I put anything on it. This is not a color I needed in duplicate.

The next two are new to my collection.

Vanessa is a clear polish with tiny holographic glitter. Normally i would be over the moon for his polish but after getting Paris last month this kind of a let down. Paris, you are too darn awesome.

The last color in the box is one of the new polishes that Julep guaranteed in every box. Charlie is a taxi car yellow.

Charlie reminded me of Abby from the Maven box in April but side by side there is a slight difference. Abby is definitely a neon color and has that bright neon sheerness to it.

So that’s my mystery box. As I said before, I am disappointed that I only got 2 new colors from this box. Not Julep’s fault, but I think I’ll be taking a break from the mystery boxes for a bit as I obviously have too many polishes.

Julep Maven May 2013

This has got to be the prettiest box that I’ve gotten from Julep. I liked the theme from the beginning as I love the twenties and Art Deco and had a hard time picking which box I wanted. There were some polishes I definitely didn’t want and knew I wouldn’t use so the full collection was out. I asked my mom to help me pick and her only advice was not to get the one with the glitter polish because I have too many glitter polishes. Obviously she was of no help. I mean what kind of advice is not to get the glitter, is there even such a thing as too much glitter polish. So it came down to what lipstick trio did I like more and that box was the Boho Glam.

Here is what was in my box. Everything was so pretty this month. I even loved the tissue paper!

The freebie this month were these super cute bobby pins. I haven’t worn them yet but I’ve liked looking at them. Not sure how they will work in my curly hair though, they might get lost in a curl.

So this month the product that was featured was lipstick. I think the packaging is gorgeous and I love the cute little lipsticks. What makes tiny things so cute? These smell super yummy, like tangerines! I say yes to things smelling like citrus. I was a bad blogger though and haven’t worn them yet. So no lip swatches or any review of how the wear is. I can tell you that Satin Doll and Tea for Tea are sheer and can be used alone or layered over Lady in Red. There was another lipstick trio in some of the other boxes that was berry tones.

And now on to the nail polishes.

The first one is Alice. This is a pretty lavender with a sliver shimmer in it.

The other polish is Millie which is an unique purple navy. This is the polish that was the decision maker for this box. I’m not usually one for dark polishes but I really like this one. The swatch does not do this polish justice as it is more than just a navy polish.

Of course I couldn’t stop at these two polishes so I had got two add-on colors.

There should be no surprise that the first add-on I got was the glitter polish. Paris is holographic glitter polish with a mix of small glitter and large hexagon glitter. I am so in love with this polish. It is so gorgeous!

The other polish I got is Zelda. This is a gold almost foil-like polish. The bottle side of the picture is a better representation of the color than the macro picture.

So that is all my goodies for the month. I can’t even imagine how Julep will be able to top this box but I’m ready to find out.

Julep Sea Salt Mystery box

This is the latest mystery box from Julep with the new Sea Salt texture polish. This is box #7.

The first thing in this box is a pedicure toe separators and another nail file. They must have millions of these nail files as I have gotten one in every mystery box.

The next item is the Rock Star hand crème that came in the March Maven boxes. I was not a fan of this lotion as this is a little to perfumey/floral-ly to me. It does moisturize decently.

This box came with 4 polishes and no dupes this time!

The first one is Claudette, which is a tomato red. I think I’ve gotten a red in every mystery box. I’m not a fan of red polish, really boring to me, and I somehow have amassed a big red collection.

The next one is Viola, which is dark purple that is almost black. This is pretty, but more of a fall/winter color for me.

The next color is my favorite in the box and that color is Sarah. This is a sheer color with multi color glitter. Yay glitter! I think this would be a good layer color, I might try this on top of Claudette.

The last polish in the box is the Sea Salt polish in Jill. Not impressed with this color. This reminds me of sidewalk cement. While I do think the texture is interesting, not quite sure this is something I want to put on my nails. I probably would have liked it if was sparkly, because you know glitter!

That is my box. Kinda of a let down. I don’t like the Rock Star lotion and except for Sarah not impressed with any of the polishes. Though my last mystery box was so impressive I was bound to be let down.

In other news I got a cool new macro lens for my iPhone. This should help with nail polish swatches being more accurate.

Julep Maven April 2013 Full Collection

I couldn’t decide this month which Maven box I wanted this month. I liked all the colors in my normal box but I had so many colors I wanted to add on that I decided to upgrade to the full collection. For the most part I like all the colors, the only down side is that I got another dry shampoo! So some lucky family member will be getting that.

So let’s get Into what is in the box.

This is the freebie that was put into the box this month. When I was younger my family would always vacation in the mountains and where ever we went they had rock candy, so this brings back memories.

I’m really interested in the Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum. This is suppose to help dry, peeling nails, which I have. You apply it twice a day for two weeks and then once a day after that. I’ll let you know how it works or if I notice any change after the 2 weeks.

This is Julep’s new dry shampoo. This is suppose to be invisible and you won’t have to worry about dull hair.

So now the good stuff, all the polishes! This month’s theme is “Turn on the Brights” and these are bright polishes.

The picture on the left is a swatch inside and the picture on the right is in sunlight. Well, almost sunlight as it’s very cloudy today. The swatches on the nail wheel are all two coats except for candy, which is three coats. You can tell the true neon colors by the fact that they are matte. All went on pretty smoothly except for Eden, which was really thick. I might have to put in some polish thinner to see if that helps. The only other problem I had was with Ally, which had a strong off smell different for normal polish.

So that is what was in my box. My favorite polishes are Lena and Abbie. Can’t wait to see what next month brings!

Julep Spring Mystery Box

 

So as you can see from the picture above I lucked out and got an amazing box!  I was very surprised when I opened my box and saw everything that was in the box.  

The first item in the box is the Julep.com emery board.  Nothing fancy, just your standard emery board.

The next thing in the box is the Pink Grapefruit Body Frosting.  I already have this but I’m okay with that because I love the one I have.  This smells so good!  I also feel that it moisturizes really well.  It doesn’t absorbs that quickly but that is about the only downside to the product.

The next thing in the box was the Age Defying Hand Brightener.  Haven’t used it yet so I have no opinion.  I have so many open hand lotions open right now I don’t need to have another open.

The next thing is the American Beauty Volumizing mascara.  I had tried the Boho Glam Lengthening mascara.  I hated this mascara.  It was so dry and did nothing for my lashes and threw it away after one use.  Haven’t tried this one yet but I don’t have high hopes.

The next thing is the random goodies that was in every box.

 

Last but not least is all the polishes I got!  I got 10!!!  Crazy!  I did get 4 dupes but I can’t complain about 6 new polishes.

This is much darker than in real life. This is more of grey purple.

So that is what I got in my box.  Makes me ready for the next mystery box, even though I know I probably won’t ever get a box this good for a while.

 

 

 

Julep February 2013 Mystery Box

Here are the contents of my mystery box.  Not a fan of reds and pinks but all of these colors are pretty.

Camilla lip gloss

The lip gloss was pretty nice.  It was a little on the sticky side but I’ve worn sticker.  This gives no color on the lip so it would work well for layering gloss to put over your lipstick.

When I ordered my mystery box I also purchased the Jane polish.  I wish I would have waited since I got the code for the free nail polish.  Oh well.

This is described as a rose gold but it looks more bronze to me.
